Romania’s most expensive Coke*

in Bucharest

A couple of days ago we went to meet Mrs. Bucharest Life at Otopeni Airport, and while waiting (the flight was late) we got thirsty.

Being an airport we knew we would be paying over the odds at the kiosk in arrivals, but even so, we were shocked by the price they were asking for a can of Coke… 8 lei. Almost €2 for a can of Coke. Obscene.

Even the most fitze clubs in the city don’t charge that.

Fortunately, underneath arrivals at Otopeni is a small Billa supermarket, selling food and drink at (almost) regular prices.

May the kiosk in arrivals go out of business very soon.

*Do let us know if you’ve spotted an even more expensive Coke in Romania.

Craig,

Your mock indignation at the incestuous and inseparably implicit nature of corruption that is Romanian “culture” and that IS Romania, had me laughing for exactly 1 minute.

That is, until I realized that either; 1) You are a tourist, or 2) You are naive, or 3) You are deceitful, and a lying typical POS native citizen of the dump called Buchi.

Like this or not, (and I care not if you do or don’t) one of the above three premises are correct.

If you wish for a life, or a future, you will do very well to exit the absolutely putrid and polluted sewer that is Bucharest.

Why? Bucharest offers everything someone would need. Yeah, it could do with some more trees but otherwise it’s a fine city

“Why? Bucharest offers everything someone would need. Yeah, it could do with some more trees but otherwise it’s a fine city”

You could have just said “I am naive,” and saved time and bandwith.

I’m pretty sure I’ve paid more than that at Cafepedia at Universitate, but it is nicer than Otopeni…..if you don’t mind smoke that is.

Yes but that’s a cafe, this is just a kiosk!

Yes, but it’s a kiosk in an airport! Admittedly UK airports are relatively restrained in this regard, but elsewhere…not so much. Your Billa recommendation is a good one though – the only reason why I know about it is because I take the bus rather than a taxi to town.

When is the metro due!?

I spotted 200ml of Pepsi with 4.2 RON in Berceni … and also I know a place where 250ml of Coca Cola costs 7 RON (or 8 RON not sure but it’s the same thing anyway), that is at one of the cafes at Universitate.

Definetly you still have a lot to discover in Bucharest :D
