A unique exhibition of photography opens this Sunday at Clubul Taranului (around the back of the Peasant Museum. The entrance is here): Romania through the lenses of expatriate women.
Organised by a group of amateur female photographers, the exhibition will present images from women in the expatriate community, seeking to reflect their perspective on Romania and its people as seen through the lenses of their cameras.
United by a passion for photography and with the privilege of enjoying plenty of free time, these 18 women and mothers, all with distinctly different backgrounds and coming from 15 different nations, decided to share their personal vision and feelings about their lives in Romania.
Without being critical, this project shares some of the culture shocks they experienced, exposes the contrasts Romania is made of and highlights Romania’s unique and natural beauty. The exhibition will reflect aspects of the Romanian culture and way of life that has really touched them and that they really enjoy – here in their temporary, adoptive home.
The women come from Belgium, Canada, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Serbia, Spain, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Malaysia and Turkey.

I just got back from Bucharest. I am American and I got scammed by someone I believed loved me. My heart is broken and my view of Romania is not so nice right now. When I was there I did appreciate somethings about the country. There were some positives. However, Romania has a long way to go in terms of development. For me, corruption seems to be the greatest hurdle the Romanian people must overcome. My ‘ex’ seemed so genuine and kind. But her heart was not in a good place and she told many lies. Its seems that lying is very common among people in Bucharest at least. It is unfortunate. I was actually considering investing in Romania. But as my friend in Scandinavia said. And I am forced to agree with him at this point. I agree with him that, “Romania is quite “hopeless”.
Much like my own land, just in a different way.
how did you get scammed? i’m chatting online with a woman from romania and she wants me to come over to see her…
I had a look over the battle of Orgreave.
There’s a big difference from the Romanian mineriads, in the battle of Orgreave the police and the miners were equally matched and the miners were unarmed.
While in the battle of Costesti there were 20.000 miners armed with bats and axes, led by a bulldozer to break the barricade while the police were much less in numbers.
The miners took cats from peoples’ homes in Costesti and released them before the charge so as to distract the police dogs. And reportedly they had been given the exact plans of the police defensive system and it was easy for them to climb the hill and roll boulders over the police lines.
I think Miron Cozma’s syndicate was much stronger in Romania than Scargill’s syndicate in the UK, numbering 47.000 workers.
I think even the British riot police would have taken a beating from Cozma’s miners back in 1999
Hello… is there anyone still alive? …
No, I think everyone’s waiting for the financial Apocalypse and the end of life as we know it.
As for Romania… I foresee the return of the 1993-1994 spectrum, the return of the wild people willing to beat anyone on the streets and restaurants selling pork barbecue made out of horse meat and gypsies selling home-made Coca Cola in Piata Sudului.
I’m afraid things have gone way beyond Basescu’s power this time… maybe we should shoot the Greeks for rigging their financial reports.
Still alive. Been away.
And on the dark side of Europe…

What the hell is happening in western cities?!?! Is everyone blind, nobody sees these athrocities?!?!
How come these don’t happen in Bucharest or Moscow?! Send all the criminals from Paris here in Bucharest to see if in 2 weeks they still exist.
How come beggars, thieves and all kinds of criminals are allowed to walk the earth freely in western cities?!
I’m starting to believe that this attitude is a proof of stupidity.
People say that Romanian Police don’t do their jobs, but what about the western Police?? Are they corrupt, are they stupid, do they lack funding, how come they can’t put a halt to the street criminality in their cities?!
Don’t forget to mention the Dutchies…
