Locals will know about these (but then again we more or less count as locals these days and we never knew they existed), foreigners may not: Romanian webcams, hundreds of them.
Hosted by the website of newspaper Jurnalul National, you will find not just Bucharest webcams, but also live live streams from around the country, including the Romanian ski resorts.

Just read some of the comments, think they are a bit unfair, Bucharest ok it maynot be the most pretty City in the world, perhaps at one time it might have , but i find its people very friendly , and i love its large green areas of Parklands which it people love and use, and if you take time to explore you will find lots of beautiful buldings so for me its not all negitive , i agree its politics need to think more of its people than their own greed and that holds the country back, in fact the young people have almost given up in seeing their country progress, but still many will remain and hope that one day things will improve ,talking of bribes , bribes can only live off those who give bribes ,and that includes goverments at least in Romania its more open unlike many countries.

I think I have put a finger on what is going on in Bucharest. Ceausescu ruined the architecture and elegance of the place and severely traumatized its citizens. He brought in huge numbers of peasants to live here and this is the problem! A city is supposed to be cosmopolitan and not have farmers living in the center! When I walk around the streets and shop in the supermarkets I feel as if i am in a village. Although actually in a Romanian village people are much better behaved and more friendly! So the problem here is that peasants are not in their natural element. They have been forced to live in an urban environment and bad results have followed. Am I wrong?

No you’re not wrong. Bucharest was forcefully industrialized in the 70s and 80s and the need for workers was pregnant.
Now you can’t see all the factories that were functional back then because most of them went broke and the areas turned into real-estate developments, but the neighborhoods that were created back then were actually meant to supply the giant factories with workers. For example 20.000 people living in Berceni were working at the IMGB plant (currently Doosan – IMGB industrial park).
But that’s not the only factory that was available in Bucharest. Electromagnetica, 23 August works, Electroaparataj, Vulcan, Mecanica, Semanatoarea, Republica, Intreprinderea de lacuri si vopsele, Miorita works (milk industrialization) only to name a few, and at least 30 other small factories needed workers.
So Ceausescu decided to re-distribute the population around industrial centres, because not only Bucharest needed workers. And people were moved from the countryside to the newly built neighborhoods in Bucharest, they were trained and hired in these factories.
You weren’t allowed to not have a job back then. If the Militia caught you on the streets jobless you were hired in a factory by force.
The perception still remains today, if the Police hear that you don’t have a job for them it means you’re almost breaking the law. Not to mention the situation when you would appear jobless before a prosecutor or a court…

Ok. Wow! All I can say is that Ceausescu absolutely destroyed “Little Paris”! I mean today Bucharest is a joke of an EU capital! I have no idea what the 4th grader was thinking! I will say it again, but I have an MA and could lead Romania successfully! I am not sure what Basescu’s credentials are besides being a former Securitate agent (which my friend (grand daughter of one has just confirmed)) Let it be known that as long as Romania is led by former Communists, the country will continue to be lame. I mean Romanians should know that the country has the WORST reputation in Europe. Talk about Romania in the UK or Sweden and see what reaction you get!!!

Do Swedish people know that Romania even exists?
Because Romanian people don’t know shit about Sweden, if you ask on the street you’ll find out that Volvo is made in Germany.
I don’t care very much about what the Swedish think about this country as long as they don’t contribute 1$ for its development.
And with the U.K. I think we’re starting to know each other better and both countries adapt so they cooperate. See for example the huge bribes paid by BAE Systems to get contracts of hundreds of millions of Euro over here, the RBS which is the only real bank present in Romania and I’m sure there are other examples.
The British are not stupid people, if the French and the Austrians could could bribe their way to monopolies over here why wouldn’t the British try to get their share?! Only the Dutch and the Scandinavian were stupid and whatever they say now is because they weren’t smecheri enough to get their share.
I would describe the relationship between the U.K. and Romania as a consociate ignorance, “stay put, there’s more to come between us”.

I guess I took a picture of the Romanian Intelligence Services. . . I don’t know. . . but that is what they tell me. I was taking pictures along the streets East of piata Romana and was surprised to see all these American style washing machines all lined up in the courtyard of a building. It didn’t make any sense. These were the big Maytag made American washing machines and refrigerators too, you simply never see them in Romania. So, I took a picture. Woops! The men would not tell me specifically who they were but just said they were government officials and the it was prohibited to take photographs of the compound. I asked where the sign was saying “no photographs”? They said that if I didn’t delete the pictures I would go to jail. I laughed and that is when things got crazy. I ran like hell and was followed by three of their Mercedes vans but escaped! Another day in Bucuresti!

From what I know, the anti-terrorist brigade of the SRI has black Mercedes vans. Also the special inteventions unit of the Jandamerie has blue Mercedes vans. The regular Police has Volkswagen vans and the local Police (formerly Politia Comunitara) has mostly Renault vans.
Not sure which one you ran into but if the washing machines were American made it means you could have photographed around the residence of an U.S. official or some premises of the U.S. diplomatic mission…
The vans could also have been of the SPP, especially if those people wore dark colour suits. All the other services which I wrote earlier wear specific uniforms…

I’ve known about these webcams for some time. I use them to see what the weather and traffic are like where I am about to go. By the way, isn’t London full of video cameras watched by the BigBrother??

I take it you don’t like the fact that there are these webcams and that they are public? I can’t really tell from the article.
