Romania’s wealthy to be allowed to buy homes built for Romania’s poor. On the cheap.

We hadn’t heard much from Elena Udrea – everyone’s favourite blonda mondena of a Tourism & Regional Development Minister – recently, so we were delighted to see her back in the groove this morning with the announcement that she plans to sell off highly desirable, government-built social housing (ANL) for rock-bottom prices to tenants.

Many – if not all – tenants occupying ANL apartments are doing so not because they are socially under privileged, homeless or key workers, but because they knew a man who knew a woman who knew a man whose naş could put in a word for them at the local council.

The key part of Udrea’s announcement was the removal of the cap on tenant’s income: “Today, tenants must not have a family income higher than twice the average salary on economy. This provision will be eliminated.

Translated, that means that the rich people living in the apartments who had until now not been able to buy them, will now be able to buy them, and at what prices!

Three room apartments for €36,014. Nice.

Even taking into account a Romanian real estate market very much on the floor (and about to go through it), that is still a bargain.

Meanwhile, Romania’s homeless remain very much homeless.

And here’s more: not only are companies that make a loss being made to pay a compulsory profit tax, but companies which have closed down are going to be made to pay it… http://www.zf.ro/eveniment/culmea-taxarii-firmele-suspendate-sa-plateasca-impozit-pe-profit-5533849/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
