Oprescu Does Something Sensible

in Bucharest,Romanian Politics

Here’s the story, in Evenimentul Zilei.

In allowing Madonna to sing in Parcul Eroilor on August 26, Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu has to all intents and purposes told Bucharest Ring – the organisers of the disastrous Formula 3 races around Casa Poporului which nobody turned up to yet which caused so much chaos in 2007 and 2008 – to get lost. The race was scheduled for August 28. Given the time it takes to get the track ready (which meant half the city closed down for a week) there is simply no way the two events can take place.

So will it be Madonna or Formula Nobodies? We’re backing Madonna.

For anyone who might have forgotten, here’s why Bucharest and motor racing do not mix…

Actually I have a saying which has become a way of life: first you solve your problems and then you may have fun.
I don’t understand these concerts, races, etc… have we solved all our problems, there’s nothing else to solve anymore and now we can have fun?!?!
I may be a work-a-holic but from my point of view either Madonna or Formula 17 is the same thing – a waste of time.
I would have called Madonna to celebrate the building of the National stadion for example, but right now I see no reason :-? ?
Maybe we’ll call her when Basescu leaves from Cotroceni Palace.
Remember what I tell you now: Basescu will be the first Romanian politician to go to jail for corruption. The reason is simple – so that he never runs for presidency again.
