Studio Martin & SMS Sp*m

We got an SMS just now, from Club Martin, telling us that Studio Martin has some German DJs playing tonight and tomorrow.

The content of the message is irrelevant: this is spam. We have never signed up to any Studio Martin mailing list. Coming from a club owned and run by some fairly western-looking people who would – we are fairly certain – consider themselves above spam, it’s clearly time they had a word with their marketing people.

As for Vodafone selling our phone numbers…

Of the many advertising text messages I got (despite my calling and telling them I did not, do not and will never want to receive any text messages), this one rocks:

13.01.2009 12:52 From: 1848; Text: “This phone number is in Philip Morris Trading SRL database of adult smokers (I have never smoked and I dare ask who recorded my number there). If you wish your data erased from our database, kindly call 021-2036155″.

Indeed, call and pay for the call in order to give up something one has never asked for. Furthermore, the lady answering the phone wanted to know why I want my number off their database. Someone at Vodafone is getting some money, either officially or not. And the ANC watches in content, arms crossed.
