According to this post on the blog of some Bucharest melons (who, as you will see if you follow the link, object to the Dambovita Centre and McDonalds but see no problem with vandalism in the form of graffitti…), today will see a ‘video installation’ (trans. ‘video in a room’) by somebody called Sarah Evans go on display at a Bucharest art gallery.
All very well; we might even go along, if only to ask about the two million people killed by Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu (read the full post on that blog).
Now, we’re no fans of Old Nic and his wife, but please, to say their “regime directly killed up to two million people” is shockingly poor history. That kind of figure would place the dead couple way above Idi Amin and Jean-Bedel Bokassa in the genocide stakes, gently gnashing at the heels of Pol Pot.
