Bucharest Sets New World Record for Pointless World Records

Bucharest last week set three new stupid, expensive and utterly pointless world records, thereby breaking the old record held by no city in the world.

Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu told Bucharest Life: “We are thrilled at these three new records. We are delighted that we can waste so much of the public’s money without anyone in the press standing up and saying ‘hang on, isn’t this all a waste of money?’

“We hope to waste much more money in 2009: maybe enough to break another world record, this time for wasting money.”

Bucharest city council already holds the world records for wasting both its population’s time and money.

And still mayor Oprescu remained with 17 million Euro that he didn’t manage to spend last year…

Looks like somebody got a subscription to Private Eye for Christmas? Very funny though.
