Something for the Weekend: Zilele Bucurestiului

by Craig Turp September 19, 2008 Business

Zilele Orasului, or City Festival. Every Romanian city, town and village has its festival, usually two or three days of special events and freebies, with the mayor ever present, reminding everyone they’re having a good time on his money. Bucharest celebrates Zilele Bucurestiului this weekend, and for the first time in many years is doing [...]

The Bucharest We’re Not Meant to See

by Craig Turp September 18, 2008 Media

Rahova, Bucharest, originally uploaded by ppscslv. We’ve long been fans of Flickr.com at Bucharest Life, not least because of the massive amount of source material it provides both for us and for Bucharest In Your Pocket. A casual search on Flickr for ‘Bucharest’ the other day gave us a wide selection of photos. Predictably, most [...]

Graffitti in the Name of Marketing is Still Vandalism

by Craig Turp September 18, 2008 Media

Because the airwaves of Bucharest are not already full to bursting with little radio stations barely anyone listens to, we’re about to get another: Radio Zu. Yes, Zu. Actually, people using words like cros just look stupid because in English its use is ludicrous. [...]

Blue Air Bucharest-Brussels-London

by Craig Turp September 11, 2008 Bucharest

Much maligned Romanian budget airline Blue Air Web announced today that it would begin operating flights from Brussels to London from October 26. This is the airline’s first non-Romanian route, and was being marketed as a complimentary flight for passengers currently using Blue Air’s Bucharest-London and Bucharest-Brussels routes. Our antennae smell a rat. Expect the [...]

Something for the Weekend: Honey

by Craig Turp September 11, 2008 Bucharest

Here at Bucharest Life we love honey. Adore it. We put it in everything, from sandwiches to tea. Sometimes we simply sit down on the sofa with a pot of honey and eat it Winnie the Pooh style. Romanians, however, don’t. Despite the country having a celebrated history of apiculture, and a rich and varied [...]
