Bucharest In Your Pocket issue 75 is done and dusted and at the printer. Here is the cover:

Features this issue include a look back at the Bucharest earthquake of 1977, books about Romania in English (including some reviews first published here, as well as a cracking new sketch of Paul D. Quinlan’s Carol: The Playboy King by Chris Lawson) and Bucharest’s tallest buildings.

New venues to look out for include Mircea Dinescu‘s restaurant Lacrimi si Sfinti, on Strada Sepcari, and what is perhaps our new favourite bar, Laboratorul de Cocktailuri.

We would also like to point out that the guide includes a listing for Malagamba, which is very much open! It was closed for a few days in January following an overzealous visit from the financial guard, but has since reopened and is as good as ever. Alas it seems news of the reopening has not spread as quickly as the news of the closure did.

Bucharest has rarely looked better

The features this issue are the full (and revised, thanks to the comments and corrections of Bucharest Life readers) Romanian Alcohol text, as well as a big feature on Football in Bucharest. We have always wanted to publish a feature on football in the Romanian capital, and as Manchester United are coming to Bucharest this month we thought the timing was finally right.

There is a bigger-than-ever Old Town/Lipscani section (15 pages, no less) which – just for you – we’ve made available to download as a PDF right here.

It’s been all go these past few months at In Your Pocket offices across Europe, as researchers and editors have been feverishly plotting GPS coordinates for the more than 50,000 hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, embassies and such like that we have in our database.

The result was made available to the public at large yesterday: maps.inyourpocket.com

Every city we cover (there are more than 70, and the list is growing all the time) is now available as a map-led guide, with seamless links to our main website inyourpocket.com and back again.

The main website has itself also been given a bit of a facelift (regular readers of Bucharest Life may already have seen the new look in fact, as we have been linking to the test version of it for some time) and was – it’s ‘blowing our own trumpet’ time – recently named by The Guardian as one of the world’s best 50 travel websites, as well as the Daily Mail’s Website of the Week.
