When we started Bucharest Life in 2007 it was little more than an extension of our day job, the city guide Bucharest In Your Pocket. Bucharest Life was a place to write about some of the things which didn’t quite fit into a city guide, either because of a lack of space or simply because the subject matter wasn’t wholly appropriate.
Since then, Bucharest Life has become an increasingly important part of the Romanian capital’s English-language media mix. Over the past year or so we have been publishing more and more daily and weekly news updates, often becoming the first English-langauge source to break stories. Throughout 2017 we hope to publish as many daily summaries of goings on in Bucharest and Romania as possible. It is not a full-time endeavour however, so do not blame us if we miss anything.
We still publish Bucharest In Your Pocket and will continue to do so well into our dotage. Indeed, we are currently expanding our reach and will be launching new guides in a number of Romanian cities this year.
Who is Bucharest Life?
Me, Craig Turp-Balazs. A resident of Bucharest since the summer of 1998 I learnt Romanian at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, studying Romanian language and literature under the tutelage of Professor Dennis Deletant. Besides my two Bucharest projects I have written and contributed to a number of guidebooks for various publishers, including: Berlitz Bulgaria, DK Eyewitness Austria, DK Eyewitness Budapest, DK Eyewitness Hungary, DK Eyewitness Prague, DK Top 10 Budapest.
You can read more about me (and how I came to be in Bucharest) in this piece I originally wrote for Decat o Revista.
PS Why do I always write blog posts in the first person plural? Simple: it is the In Your Pocket house style and after 18 years we find it difficult to write any other way.
