The author (or one of them, at least) of the Romania & Moldova edition of Lonely Planet, Leif Pettersen (a regular contributor to Bucharest Life, too), yesterday relaunched his rather good travel guide to the two countries, which contains bags of stuff he couldn’t fit in the book. Do take a look when you get a chance.

Then make him rich and buy the book when it comes out in May.

Cover’s much much better this time around … no gypsies, no fiddlers and no horse carts … amazing!

Craig, was curious what you thought of the Bucharest intro in this edition?

Granted, Moldova is not part f Romania. Granted, lots of Moldovans are not inclined to be minted ‘Romanian’ any time soon. However, some Romanians are Moldovan. Many personal stories, both old and new, strand the border on different premises. Take a look at those, and the story of ethnicity within Romanian borders will get even more interesting. Promis’

Moldova is not part of Romania. Moldova is an independent country with a pro-russian attitude who voted for Basescu.
I think Romania should chill down it’s relationship with her “Moldavian brothers” and give them a push further east to the Russians, mostly by recognizing the autonomy of Transnistria.
In the 90′s when everyone talked about uniting the 2 countries, the Moldavians rejected us and went to the Russians because there was more to milk from them; now that we entered the E.U. the Moldavians say they’re Romanians because they want to milk the E.U. now.
Like the Germans got their revenge when they split Yugoslavia apart in the 90′s that’s how Romania will get her revenge on Moldova if I ever come to power.

Seeing Basescu milk the Chisinau crowd today made me think that is he’s so popular there, he should stay there!

Also… Never ceases to amaze me how Romanian politicians bang on about Moldovans being Romanians and that they should be able to get Romanian citizenship as easily as possible, and yet as soon as a Hungarian in Romania whispers the word ‘autonomy’ all hell breaks loose…

Do you know what’s going on the cover of the new edition? I think there will be a riot if it’s another Gyspy…
