Excellent post today from The Zvoner (Adrian Mihaltianu) about the ugly wall that surrounds the grounds of Casa Poporului.

Basically, for the benefit of those who do not speak Romanian, he’s saying that the wall should come down, and the vast acres of land which are now desolate and shabby be put to good use.
A sound idea in our book.

That wall looks like it’s much older than the palace itselves, it’s like one of those walls you see around graveyards…
I am sure everyone has seen the various suggestions for what to do with the Palace Parliament that are up on boards at piata Universitate metro? Worth a look at the ideas if you haven’t seen them. Something needs to be done with it. Otherwise, the hulking structure and the Ceausescu legacy will keep their grip over Bucharest long into the future.
How about also reconstructing the historic area of Bucharest that was once there while they are at it! Bucharest would be a great place if the historic zone from east of piata Romana and University still stretched down through piata Unirii towards the Marriott. What Ceausescu was thinking I just don’t know. Destroying so many beautiful old buildings makes him a category 5 moron in my opinion.
