Buchararest metro carriage with graffiti, by the mysterious young artist simply known as 'Maxi'

Bucharest metro carriage with graffiti (2009)

Metro carriage with graffiti, by the seven-year old artist known simply as Maxi, is just one of the many exciting works not featured in a new book showcasing the very best in Romanian snake oil.

Called 100 Ways to Milk a Cow the book is a hilarious spoof of the contemporary art world. Look out for it on a coffee table made of eco-friendly wood near you soon.

Craig,

You may be right, I don’t know. Apparently these are the top 100 emerging artists to watch here in Romania. Certainly the arts scene here is more interesting in my opinion than in the West from an observational standpoint. I mean there is a real energy here and all these underground events. Not everything has been done before and you feel all this potential.

@Davin: I have no doubt a lot of work went into the book, and as a project it is kind of commendable. It is some of the stuff featured in the book that looks to me as though it didn’t require much work!!!

Craig,

Well, a lot of work went into the book and Tom Wilson who headed the project has a pretty good grasp of what is on offer here among the emerging artist crowd. . . But, yes, a lot of sex is what I saw in there :)

@Art Man: being called an Old Fart is a compliment I will take to the grave. Thank you.

Yes we all know how clever you are Craig but you have got it very wrong this time. The book 100 to Watch is an initiative supported by a number of people you have otherwise praised here including the Romanian Cultural Institute. The work featured in the book may not be your taste but then you probably don’t get it, because you are an old fart. So there.

@Art Man: I think you will find that it is (1) You’re and (2) Philistines. No argument with the idea that we do not like the vast majority of contemporary art though.

You’ve got to admire the artist’s attention to details: the metro trains do indeed have their wheels arranged in groups of two :D
