Romanian newspapers are reporting this morning that Prime Minister Little Emil Boc yesterday promised to have a 30km stretch of the of the Bucharest – Ploiesti motorway finished by the end of this year.
Truth is, in a rare moment of lucidity, Little Emil said no such thing. What he actually said was ‘we have the resources to complete 30km of the motorway by the end of the year.’ Romania has the resources to do lots of things. Never actually does them though.
Boc’s comments came just two days after President Traian Basescu made a much publicised visit to the motorway construction site, to check on progress and offer advice where needed, very much in the style of another Romanian president who made something of a habit of visiting construction sites.
