Ever noticed (those of you who watch and understand Romanian TV news that is) how many stock phrases there are? How many cliches?
There are some subjects where you simply know exactly what kind of thing the presenter will say. Here are a just a few we’ve been collecting (with apologies for any spelling/grammatical errors. By the way do we actually ‘collect’ cliches?):
zapada este numai buna de ski (winter)
vremea numai buna de plaja (summer)
Bucurestenii au luat cu asalt parcurile capitalei
si, de ce nu
cei dragi de acasa (as in ‘s-au intors muncitori romani din strainatate cu multe cadouri pentru cei dragi de acasa‘)
au dansat pe ritmurile
de foc (as in grupa de foc)
mese belsugate
bucate traditionale
veselie si voie buna
oferte pentru toate buzunarele

How about “clipe de cosmar”, “momente de groaza”, “sub privirile ingrozite ale…”

I like this one: “in weekend ploua in toata tara” (i.e. you imbeciles, sink in your armchairs and watch our Saturday shows). Especially coming from a weather forecast presenter, it sounds great. No details and a superb generalization.
Some other lines:
“a deschis calea [...]”
“oportunitati de afaceri”
“sa profitam de ocazie”
‘Veselie si voie buna.’ How could I have forgotten that one. Brilliant.
That is most probably because both the presenters and producers have read a limited amount of Romanian classic literature during their formative years. The much lauded high standard of Romanian education system was and is still just a myth.
Now my list of local TV cliches that drive me around the bend:
“vacanta de vis”
“locuinta de vis”
“veselie si voie buna”
“menegement” (for management)
“Haliud” (for Hollywood)
…
